In New York City, undercover DEA agent Ricardo Tubbs (Taye Diggs) is in a hot night club staking out a drug dealer known only as Calderone (Marc Anthony). He follows Calderone into the rest room, but is attacked by two of Calderone's men. The confrontation allows Calderone to escape out the back door. Tubbs manages to take out both of the men in the restroom and runs out the back door of the club after Calderone, but he's already long gone.

In Miami, Vice Detective James "Sonny" Crockett (Josh Holloway) is waiting to meet up with an informant with his partner Eddie Rivera (Wilmer Valderama). Eddie is on the phone with his wife, in an argument about her parents coming to visit. When the informant arrives, Rivera says goodbye to his wife and hangs up. Rivera gets in the car of the informant to head to a drug buy to purchase some cocaine from a dealer working for the kingpin only known as Calderone, while Crockett follows in his car. As they drive over a bridge, the informant's car explodes, killing him and Rivera. Later on the scene of the crime, Crockett briefs his superior, Lt. Lou Rodriguez (Marco Rodriguez), and tells him he's convinced that Calderone is responsible for the deaths. Crockett asks Rodriguez to consider that Calderone may have been tipped off by someone in the department. Rodriguez is not a fan of such accusations, and tells Crockett to pull it together and do things by the book or he'll be stuck at a desk.

Crockett shows up late to his son's birthday party, heading straight there from the crime scene. His ex-wife Caroline (Amanda Righetti) is furious that he is so late, but he tells her he doesn't want to talk about it and is sorry. At the party he talks to his old partner and friend, Scott Wheeler (Lee Tergeson), who is now a DEA agent. He tells Wheeler about Rivera's death. After the party, Caroline tells Crockett he can sleep on the couch if he needs to, but Crockett declines and heads home to the marina where he lives on a sailing yacht. He feeds his pet alligator Elvis some chicken before drinking himself to sleep.

Crockett demands local drug dealer Leon (Gaius Charles) help set up a meeting between himself and Calderone, Leon refuses until Crockett pulls out a gun and threatens to kill Leon if he doesn't cooperate. Meanwhile, Ricardo Tubbs arrives at the Miami-Dade International Airport. That night he meets with Wheeler, who is unaware that he is a fellow DEA agent, at a club trying to set up a buy with Calderone. Crockett and Leon head to their deal on Crockett's speedboat where they find they are meeting up with Wheeler and Tubbs. Crockett and Wheeler don't mention that they know each other, each assuming the other is working undercover to build a case against the person they are with. Before the deal can be completed, Crockett's backup, Detectives Stan Switek (Brad William Henke) and Larry Zito (Troy Garity) arrive early. They arrest Leon, while Tubbs steals Crockett's boat and takes off. Crockett rips into Switek and Zito for ruining the deal. He then commandeers a Porsche and pursues the boat by car. Knowing the Miami waters by heart, Crockett stops the car atop a low bridge and jumps off, landing in the back of his speedboat. Crockett identifies himself as Miami Vice, and to his shock Tubbs identifies himself as NYPD officer Rafael Tubbs. The pair go to meet up with Lt. Rodriguez, who informs Crockett that Tubbs is in Miami on special clearance looking for Calderone, who has killed two NYPD officers. Rodriguez then suggests the two team up since they're after the same man.

The following morning, Tubbs goes to Crockett's boat and is startled to meet Crockett's gator Elvis, who Crockett says is the former mascot of the University of Florida Gators football team. Crockett soon leaves to join Wheeler downtown in court for Leon's bond hearing. The judge released Leon on his recognizance for his cooperation with the D.A. Leon, not wanting to be killed by Calderone for thinking he cooperated with the police, calls the police to get ahold of Crockett. Rodriguez is notified of the call and tells Crockett to meet Leon at the beach. Tubbs has tailed Leon on his own from the court house, however, Leon is killed by one of Calderone's men, DeSoto (Rey Valentin), before either cop can talk to him. Pissed that their only lead was just killed, Crockett reluctantly agrees to team up with Tubbs temporarily to go after Calderone.

Crockett and Tubbs go to Leon's apartment and find the place has been ransacked. Tubbs manages to find an old burner phone, which they take back to the station and to the Organized Crime Bureau to back trace the numbers in the phone's address book. Tubbs says that he knows he was the only one tailing Leon from the court house, so the hitman must have been told by the department where Leon would be. Crockett agrees that there must be a leak in the department, but isn't sure who it could be. Tubbs tells Crockett that Rodriguez recently made a rather large deposit at the bank. Crockett calls another Vice officer, Gina Calabrese (Katrina Law), and asks her to quietly do a check on Rafael Tubbs to see what comes up. Tubbs receives a phone call from DeSoto, who believes Tubbs escaped with the cash from the blown deal, asking him to meeet with him in a nightclub later that night to finish the deal.

At the nightclub, Crockett and Tubbs enjoy a night of partying with Gina and another Vice officer Trudy Joplin (Megalyn Echikunwoke). DeSoto shows up and invites Tubbs to the VIP area where he introduces him to Calderone. Gina tells Crockett that Rafael Tubbs was killed in a shootout with Calderone's men three weeks earlier in New York, so the man he's been working with can't possibly be him. Crockett storms out of the club. Gina finds Crockett on his boat later. She settles him down and the couple end up having sex below deck.

In the morning, Crockett finds Gina gone. Tubbs arrives on the boat, and Crockett immediately confronts him, pulling out a gun and demanding to know who he really is. Tubbs reveals that he is actually Ricardo Tubbs, Rafael was his brother and he wants to track down and kill Calderone as revenge for his brother's murder. Their confrontation is interrupted by a phone call from DeSoto, who sets up the meet for later that night.

At OCB, Crockett confronts Rodriguez about his unexplained wealth, but Rodriguez refuses to explain. Tubbs, meanwhile, gets a call from DeSoto asking to meet him right away. Crockett finally gets the report of the back traced numbers on Leon's phone, and discovers that one of the numbers Leon called belongs to Scott Wheeler, revealing that he is really the department leak. Crockett believes DeSoto must know Tubbs is a cop, races to the meeting place, arriving just as DeSoto pulls his gun to kill Tubbs. Crockett manages to shoot DeSoto before he can kill Tubbs. Crockett then heads to Wheeler's house to confront him about his number being in Leon's phone. Wheeler admits that he received $250,000 from Calderone six months ago and he accepted the money to pay off his mortgage. He tells Crockett that soon afterward, DeSoto began hitting him up for information, which he provided. Crockett attacks Wheeler, and begins beating him for getting Rivera killed. Tubbs enters the house when he hears the commotion and pulls Crockett off of a badly beaten Wheeler.

Crockett handcuffs Wheeler, who tells him that Calderone has a huge shipment coming in soon and gives him the location. Crockett and Tubbs drive to the docks. They get the drop on Calderone's men and kill all of his thugs, although Tubbs takes a bullet to the arm in the process. Calderone tries to escape, but he is confronted by Tubbs, who aims a sawed-shotgun at him. Tubbs holds back from shooting Calderone, and instead arrests him. In the morning, Crockett and Tubbs head to the jail to escort Calderone to a jail away from the city, but are informed that a judge already released him on $2 million bail. They speed off in Crockett's undercover ride, a Ferrari, but are too late to stop Calderone from escaping the country by plane. Despite frustration at Calderone getting away, Tubbs muses about a possible switch from the feds to a southern brand of law enforcement...

Plot: Sonny Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Ricardo Tubbs (Taye Diggs) are in a rundown Miami hotel protecting Joey Bramlet (Callum Turner), a key witness in an upcoming trial. Finally, their fellow OCB officers Stan Switek (Brad William Henke) and Larry Zito (Troy Garity) arrive to relieve them.

In court, Tubbs testifies against Ruiz, telling the jury how Bramlet led them to the dealer. The jude recesses the trial until Monday morning. Crockett and Tubbs are both certain that Bramlet's testimony on Monday will put Ruiz away for life. Back at the hotel that night, Switek and Zito start bickering about what to watch on TV. Bramlet slips out the door and escapes.

At OCB, Lt. Lou Rodriguez (Mel Rodriguez) berates Switek and Zito for losing their key witness. He then tasks Crockett and Tubbs with tracking Bramlet down and bringing him back by Monday, or else Ruiz will most likely be released. They head over to Bramlet's favorite bar, and the bartender tells them that Bramlet was there a couple hours ago and that he said he was heading back home to the Everglades.

Crockett and Tubbs arrive in Bramlet's home town, Okeechobee, Florida, and Tubbs is shocked to find signs of high-level drug trafficking in such a rural town. Crockett tells him that he heard the DEA has put undercover agents in town a couple times before, but the agents never came back. At a bar they meet a couple of locals, Floyd (Brent Werzner) and Billy (Devin Ratray), who buy them a round of beers. Tubbs finds this suspicious since it is obvious to him that they appear to be white supremacists. Crockett asks them if they know where they can find Bramlet, and the two men offer to drive them over to his place. They drive out into the swamps, where Floyd and Billy beat Crockett and Tubbs and drive off, stranding the two vice cops in the swamps.

Lost in the Everglades, Crockett and Tubbs start walking back towards civilization, but end up running into a group of armed men who take the two prisoner, taking them to a woman, Cassidy (Abby Miller), who reveals that she knows who they really are. She then takes them by to boat to an old house in the swamps where they encounter more armed men, along with Bramlet, who tells them that Cassidy is his wife, and that Ruiz's men have taken their young daughter and threatening to kill her if he takes the stand and testifies against Ruiz. Floyd and Billy are working with Ruiz and have their daughter in a house near town. The house is guarded by twenty Colombians armed with assault rifles. Bramlet tells them that he can only muster six men, but asks Crockett and Tubbs to help him save his daughter. Crockett insists the odds are impossible, but Bramlet reveals that Ruiz has a shipment coming in the following night, meaning that at least half of Ruiz's men will be away from the house dealing with the shipment. Crockett is still not particularly convinced, but he and Tubbs agree to at least check the house out.

That night, Cassidy tells Crockett and Tubbs about how their families used to run liquor during Prohibition, before switching over to marijuana smuggling to support their families. When Ruiz moved to the area, he began forcing the marijuana operations to work for him to smuggle cocaine, killing anyone who tried to work their own operations.
A seaplane carrying Ruiz's cocaine shipment arrives at dawn. Tubbs takes a couple men with him to hit the shipment to act as a distraction for Bramlet to rescue his daughter with the help of Crockett and a few other men. Tubbs shoots up the crates, while at the same time Crockett launches an attack on the house with Bramlet. While the locals fire upon the guards outside, Crockett sneaks in through a skylight to rescue Bramlet's daughter. He finds her being held at gunpoint by Billy, who threatens to kill her if Crockett so much as blinks. Crockett quickly shoots Billy in the head. Meanwhile, back at the shipment, Tubbs chases down a fleeing Floyd and arrests him. Back at the house, Bramlet and Cassidy give their daughter a hug. Tubbs tells Bramlet that they need to hurry back to Miami so he can testify against Ruiz. Crockett, Tubbs and Bramlet speed off toward Miami.

In court, Ruiz is clearly furious to see that Bramlet has shown up to testify. Ruiz makes a scene in the court room as Bramlet describes Ruiz's operation to the jury. The judge holds Ruiz in contempt of the court and orders the bailiffs to remove him. Crockett, Tubbs and Rodriguez move forward to assist the bailiffs in restraining Ruiz, but Ruiz manages to get his hands on the gun of one of the bailiffs' and starts firing in the direction of the police. He manages to get a shot off before he is killed by Crockett. Just when they believe order has been restored, Crockett and Tubbs notice that Ruiz's shot has hit Rodriguez in the chest. Rodriguez collapses to the floor as Crockett yells for an ambulance.

Crockett sits by Rodriguez's hospital bed. Rodriguez is in critical condition. Fellow OCB officer Gina Calabrese (Katrina Law) shows up to comfort Crockett. He's upset that he wasn't quick enough to shoot Ruiz before he could fire the gun. Gina tells him that he shouldn't blame himself, he should blame Ruiz. Rodriguez begins to crash. Doctors and nurses rush into the room to try to save him. Gina pushes Crockett out of the room.

Plot: At a marina, Sonny Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Ricardo Tubbs (Taye Diggs) are conducting surveillance on Mickey (Toby Huss), a bookie with suspected connections to crime boss Al Lombard. As they watch, a woman sits down to meet with Mickey. Crockett recognizes her as his ex-girlfriend Bethany (Bojana Novakovic). She discusses a large gambling debt with Mickey and begs him for more time to pay it off. Indifferent to her pleas, Mickey calls in his muscle, Russo (Bill Goldberg) to remove Bethany from the building. Crockett and Tubbs rush into action to protect her, but the hulking Russo does not want to go in quietly. He attacks Crockett and Tubbs, with their brawl spreading into a restaurant at the marina. Russo throws Crockett and Tubbs around the restaurant, trashing the place. The fight spreads into the restaurant's kitchen, where Tubbs stabs Russo in the leg with a knife, and Crockett hits Russo over the head with a frying pan, knocking him unconscious. Bethany tells Crockett about her gambling addiction and how Mickey's boss has taken all of her husband Joe's tools as collateral on the money she owes, but without the tools he can't work and help her pay off the rest of the debt. She asks Crockett for help, even offering to sleep with him for money. Crockett turns her down, telling her the best thing she can do to help herself would be to file charges against Mickey or Russo, but she refuses because she thinks going up against them in court would only make things worse.

At the Metro-Dade Police Organized Crime Bureau, the unit's new commander arrives, Lt. Martin Castillo (Andy Garcia). Crockett, still grieving the loss of Lt. Rodriguez, is not interested in meeting his new supervisor and leaves the building. Crockett goes to see Vincent DeMarco (Jeffrey Nordling) and tells him that if he doesn't return Joe's work tools, he will put all of his other cases on the back burner and put all of his time towards making DeMarco's life a living hell. After Crockett leaves, Al Lombard (James Remar) enters the room, telling DeMarco he has an idea on how to get Crockett off their case.

DeMarco calls Crockett and asks to meet with him. They meet up at a marina bar, where DeMarco tells Crockett that he already sold Joe's tools, but offers Crockett $5,000 as a cash equivalent. As soon as the money is in Crockett's hands, Internal Affairs officer Ben Schumer (Sasha Roiz) bursts through the bar and arrests Crockett for taking a bribe. Crockett realizes that DeMarco has set him up. Back at OCB, Schumer informs Castillo that DeMarco identified Crockett as an informant in exchange for immunity from prosecution on racketeering charges. Castillo tells Crockett that he will be off the streets while the Internal Affairs Division continues the investigation. Crockett is insulted that his new lieutenant doesn't have his back and storms out of the station. Crockett goes to see Bethany at her house and meets her husband Joe (Josh Braaten). Joe tells Crockett that Bethany has disappeared and he doesn't know where she went. Crockett calls Tubbs and has him put out an APB on her.

That night, Tubbs goes to an illegal poker game run by DeMarco. Tubbs cleans up at the game and DeMarco introduces himself. Tubbs tells him he's an enforcer down from Philadelphia looking for work in Miami until some heat dies down back up north. DeMarco tells Tubbs he'll check his reference and get back to him. Meanwhile, Crockett goes back to his sail boat where he finds Gina waiting for him with a candlelit dinner. In the morning, Tubbs stops by the boat and tells Crockett and Gina about his progress DeMarco, and brags about his poker winnings. Crockett tells Tubbs that he has set up some false references for him, and that they will back him up when DeMarco comes calling. Crockett gets a phone call informing him that the body of Bethany has been fonud in a river with a bullet to the back of her head. They all head over to the crime scene. Crockett immediately suspects that DeMarco and Lombard are responsible. Castillo is there and tells Crockett to leave. Tubbs takes issue with this and tells Castillo that Crockett is their best chance of finding the killer.

DeMarco and Tubbs meet up, and DeMarco takes him to Lombard's yacht to meet him. Lombard agrees to hire Tubbs as an enforcer for his more black and latin operations in the Miami area. Back at OCB, Schumer goes through all of Crockett's files.

Tubbs goes to work with DeMarco that night to collect money at a cockfight. The manager, Jesus (Edi Gathegi), tells them that he can only play half of the $5000 he owes as business has been slow lately. Tubbs takes Jesus aside, and tells him that he can cover the remainder but that Jesus simply has to take credit for paying the full amount. They then head to Lombard's night club. DeMarco tells Lombard that he collected $3000, saying that Tubbs couldn't collect the rest. Tubbs later tells Lombard that he handed over $5000 to DeMarco. Lombard abruptly leaves to make some calls, asking Tubbs and DeMarco to stop by his yacht the next day.

Crockett is discussing the Lombard case with Castillo when Schumer bursts into Castillo's office and starts going after Crockett for missing an Internal Affairs hearing. Castillo begins berating Schumer for coming into his office and harassing one of his officers. Castillo continues on that Crockett has an exemplary record as a police officer, and that Schumer has clearly been duped and if he really believes Crockett is crooked that he is a bigger fool than he thought.

Tubbs and DeMarco meet with Lombard on his yacht, which unexpectedly casts off from the docks. Crockett, Switek (Brad William Henke) and Zito (Troy Garity) pursue the yacht by boat. When Lombard confronts DeMarco that he knows about the missing money, DeMarco panics and begs Lombard not to kill him. Suddenly, Bethany's husband Joe emerges and shoots DeMarco in the head, killing him. Crockett jumps onto the yacht after he hears the gunshot.

Joe is taken into police custody. Lombard points out that the vice cops have nothing on him, forcing them to let Lombard go. That night, Crockett and Tubbs have some drinks on Crockett's sail boat.

Plot: Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Tubbs (Taye Diggs) respond to a bank robbery in downtown Miami. They see the thief running out of the bank and into a construction site. They give chase on foot, eventually finding the thief, Izzy Lamont (Mike Epps), hiding behind some crates covered in bright green anti-theft dye from the money he stole. Back at OCB, Lt. Castillo (Andy Garcia) mentions to Crockett and Tubbs that this would be Lamont's third felony conviction. Lamont begins giving up the names of every criminal he knows in a desperate attempt to stay of prison since he'd have to serve some serious time now. He lists off a series of low-level offenders that do not interest the detectives, until he mentions the name Lew McCarthy. Castillo tells Crockett and Tubbs that there is an open investigation on McCarthy due to alleged drug smuggling activities.

Tubbs visits a marina undercover and meets McCarthy (William Mapother), who mentions his annual boat race to Bimini and back. Tubbs asks how one enters the race, but McCarthy refuses to enter any more participants. Tubbs continues to try to ingratiate himself in McCarthy's business, mentioning his own other business interests other than boating, but McCarthy isn't interested. McCarthy introduces Tubbs to his accountant, Gifford (Matt Barr), who Tubbs recognizes as one of Crockett's informants. Before Tubbs leaves the marina, McCarthy invites Tubbs to watch the upcoming race.

Later that day, Crockett and Tubbs visit Gifford at his office. They ask Gifford to show them McCarthy's account information, but they don't see any evidence of illegal activity in the numbers. They do learn however that Gifford is skimming money from McCarthy's account for McCarthy's girlfriend, who Gifford tells them runs a high-end mens clothing store. Crockett and Tubbs decide to go shopping, and meet McCarthy's girlfriend, Vanessa (Chanel Iman), at her store. Tubbs and Vanessa immediately hit it off while Tubbs tries on jackets. They tell her that they are friends with McCarthy, and she invites them to brunch with her and Lew the next day. At brunch, Tubbs and Vanessa show a clear attraction for each other. Crockett, meanwhile, tries to talk McCarthy into giving him a slot in the race. Vanessa invites them all to a party at McCarthy's beach front house that night.

Before the party, Crockett and Tubbs search McCarthy's boat for any smuggling compartments, but don't find anything. Tubbs tells Crockett they need to hurry up and get to the party, but Crockett knows Tubbs just wants to see Vanessa, and warns him about getting involved with her. Tubbs assures Crockett that he is only using Vanessa to get to McCarthy. At the party, Tubbs and Vanessa continue to flirt, but they are interrupted by Gifford who invites Vanessa to dance. Crockett finds McCarthy beating his other guests at billiards and challenges him to a game. Crockett proposes that if McCarthy wins, he gets Crockett's Ferrari, but if Crockett wins he gets a slot in the race. Crockett dominates the match, easily defeating McCarthy. Crockett shakes McCarthy's hand and tells him he has a race to get ready for. Tubbs, meanwhile, is dancing with Vanessa. They end up kissing on the dance floor. After the dance, McCarthy confronts Tubbs at the bar, but does not seem upset. As Crockett is leaving the party, Lamont approaches him and tells him he has some important information for him. Just as he's about to tell him, they both hear a woman screaming outside. Everybody rushes over to see what is going on, and see Gifford's dead body being pulled out of the ocean.

At OCB, Crockett suggest that Gifford was killed because McCarthy must have found out he was an informant or because he was having an affair with Vanessa in exchange for Gifford skimming money from McCarthy's accounts into hers. Tubbs scoffs at Crockett's second suggestion, but Crockett says that he feels Tubbs is being blinded by his attraction to Vanessa. The detectives meet with Castillo, who tells them that Gifford was shot once in the back of the head before being dumped in the water. Crockett tells Castillo that he needs $25,000 to use as the ante in McCarthy's race. Castillo says he can't get him that much money since headquarters doesn't have enough confidence in Crockett's racing ability. He suggests they go see Gina (Katrina Law) and Trudy (Megalyn Echikunwoke) since they currently have $25,000 in buy money for a drug bust they are working on. Crockett and Tubbs arrive at the location of the drug bust to find Gina, Trudy, Switek (Brad William Henke) and Zito (Troy Garity) chasing a dealer around a beachfront hotel before finally busting him. Crockett convinces Gina to lend him their bust money, promising to get it back to her after the race. She warns him that he could mess up her career if she isn't able to turn the money back in to the police department.

On the day of the race, Crockett, Tubbs and Zito arrive late in Crockett's speed boat and almost miss the start of the race. During the race they finally discover how McCarthy is smuggling his drugs into Miami. He is using two identical boats, the first of which is piloted by men impersonating McCarthy and his crew and runs the outbound leg to Bimini. The second boat is driven by McCarthy and carries the drugs back by discreetly taking the place of the first boat and makes the return run to Miami. Crockett pushes his modified cigarette boat to victory in the race. At the marina after the race, McCarthy and his crew are arrested by Castillo and a group of Metro-Dade police officers.

That night, Crockett is spending a romantic evening on his yacht with Gina when Lamont arrives. Lamont shows Crockett a gun and tells him what he was trying to say at the party. The gun is the one used to kill Gifford. Lamont tells Crockett and Gina that he witnessed the murder and that Vanessa was the killer. Crockett and Gina go to Vanessa's house to arrest her. They knock at the door, and Tubbs answers. Crockett tells him that they found the gun used to kill Gifford and that Vanessa's fingerprints are all over it. Tubbs goes back inside and arrests Vanessa. Back at the station, Vanessa confesses, telling them she tried to break off her affair with Gifford because she was falling for Tubbs, but he threatened to tell McCarthy about the money she got him to skim from his accounts.

Plot: In Bucharest, Romania, a bus full of women and children is stopped by an SUV full of gunmen, who snatch all of the babies. One of the mothers, Tatyana (Veronika Vernadskaya), tries to escape but is caught and her baby is taken. When she tries to get the baby back, the gunman knocks her out.

In Miami, Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Tubbs (Taye Diggs) are waiting for a small plane to arrive at a isolated airport outside the city. They received a tip that the plane will contain contraband. When the plane lands, Crocket, Tubbs, Switek (Brad William Henke) and Zito (Troy Garity) swarm the plane. The pilot and co-pilot open fire on the Vice Squad, but are killed in the shootout. When the squad investigates the plane, an unconscious Tatyana falls out of a hatch on the plane. When the squad investigates the rumored crates of contraband on the plane, they find that the crates are full of babies, some of which are dead. Crocket immediately calls for medical assistance for the babies.

In the hospital, Gina (Katrina Law) and Trudy (Megalyn Echikunwoke) attempt to interview Tatyana, but she is hysteric. They manage to get her name and where she's from, before Tatyana passes out again. The doctor tells them that she had been stowed away in the unheated, unpressurized cargo hatch of the plane on the trans-Atlantic flight. When she wakes up again she explains that her baby was taken. Immigation and Customs (ICE) agents arrive to take Tatyana into custody. Gina and Trudy try to stop them and explain that they need to find her baby, but they are uninterested. While they take her away, Tatyana tells them that her baby has a birthmark on its left shoulder.

At OCB, Castillo (Andy Garcia) tells the squad that he will do what he can about ICE, but doesn't want them involved in the case, suggesting they turn it over to the FBI. Gina and Trudy want to follow up and check on who's behind this smuggling ring. Castillo gives the squad two days to figure out what they can before he turns over everything they have to the feds. Crockett and Tubbs try to track the plane, but it isn't registered and the pilots didn't have any identification. Switek and Zito check Social Services for any paperwork on recent Bosian adoptions, while Crockett and Tubbs decide to contact the consulate to coordinate with them.

At the Romanian consulate, Crockett and Tubbs speak with the consul Ivan Tabakov (Yuri Kolokolnikov) and asks to see what adoption records the consulate has. Tabakov insists that he would need his government's approval to hand over any such documents. After Crockett and Tubbs leave, Tabakov makes a phone call. At Social Services, Switek and Zito are referred to speak to Angela Mitchell (Elizabeth Mitchell), the normal contact at the office for European adoptions, but she is out of the office. The office manager offers to print out a report of any adoptions that match the profile of Tatyana's baby. The report lists over one hundred babies that fit the profile. Zito notices that almost all of the adoptions were handled by the same lawyer, listed only by a number on the list. They ask the office manager who the lawyer is, and she gives them the contact information of the lawyer, Howard Koenig.

Gina and Trudy go to the house of one of the names on the adoption list and talk to Steven March (Neil Hopkins), who tells them that they worked with Koenig to adopt their first child, but that child had a genetic disease and died. He tell them that Koenig then adopted another baby to them, but demanded $50,000 for handling the transaction. March tells them that if they ever need anyone to testify against Koenig, he would gladly since he thinks Koenig is a scum bag for trying to extort he and his wife.

At OCB, Switek and Zito are able to link Koenig with over one hundred other adoptions and discover that he won't take on new clients without a financial statement. Catillo agrees to bug Koenig's phone, despite the lack of evidence of a crime being committed. Castillo also announces that he has managed to get Tatyana released as long as she is in their custody. Zito thinks he has found a match for Tatyana's baby. Gina and Trudy take Tatyana to see the baby, where Tatyana immediately recognizes the child as her own. The adoptive mother, Moira Kaine (Dina Meyer) asks the detectives to leave.

Having supplied a fake financial statement to Koenig's office, Crockett and Tubbs pose as a gay couple looking to secure Koenig's services to help them adopt a child. They are taken into his office where they finally meet Howard Koenig (Enrico Colantoni). He begins discussing the adoption procedure when his phone rings. He apologizes to Crockett and Tubbs, but tells them that he has to cut their meeting short due to an urgent matter regarding one of his adoptions.

Angela Mitchell finally returns to the office and the office manager fills her in on the visit from Switek and Zito and them telling her about the planeload of babies. Mitchell becomes defensive, denying any knowledge of such a situation, and is upset with the manager for cooperating so freely with the police. Mitchell calls Koenig, requesting to meet on the beach. The call is intercepted by Switek and Zito, who are listening in on the call from a surveillance van. They then trail Koenig to the beach in the van. At the beach, Koenig tells Mitchell to keep her mouth shut and that he will take care of any of the parents who cooperate with the police by threatening to have their kids taken away by Mitchell. Switek and Zito are having trouble with their mics in the van and are unable to pick up the conversation being had. Koenig tells Mitchell that he will stop by her houes that night to finish the discussion before walking away. That night Koenig pulls up to Mitchell's house. He shoots her in the head as soon as she answers the door. He then runs out to his car, and pulls the dead body of Ivan Tabakov out of his trunk and drags it into Mitchell's house. Once they hear about the dead bodies of Tabakov and Mitchell, Crockett and Tubbs race to Koenig's house where they find him rushing out of the house and into his car. They chase his car through a rich neighborhood in the Miami suburbs. Plot: Sonny Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Ricardo Tubbs (Taye Diggs) are conducting surveillance on an arms dealer named Guzman (Esai Morales), who is holding a demonstration of a new submachine gun for prospective buyers. His associate Evan Freed (Freddie Prinze Jr.) displays the effectiveness of the gun by firing on a mannequinn, shredding it to pieces with a barrage of bullets from the submachine gun. Crockett and Tubbs then move in and order Guzman and Freed to surrender. Guzman and the buyers fire on the Vice squad. Crockett and Tubbs kill the buyers, but Freed and Guzman get into a truck and ram their way through a barricade of police cars and escape.

Lt. Castillo (Andy Garcia) arrives at the scene and is told that the submachine guns were loaded with armor-piercing bullets. They call in some info on the bullets and find out the address of the seller. Crockett and Tubbs head over to the house and find it cleaned out. Tubbs finds it suspicious since it doesn't look like it was done by crooks, but it was done rather professionally as if it was performed by the Feds. Crockett, posing as Sonny Burnett, his criminal alter-ego, goes to see a Neo-Nazi arms dealer, Kern (Thomas M. Wright), that he worked with years ago to see if he can get a line on Guzman's location. Kern arranges a meeting with Guzman about a shipment of the submachine guns. Crockett and Tubbs, posing as Burnett and his business partner Rico Cooper, try to work out a dealer with Guzman when Freed arrives and raises the price of the weapons. Crockett asks Guzman for a bit of time to make a decision. After they leave, Crockett reveals to Tubbs that Freed is a cop.

At OCB, ATF Agent Wilson (Michael Rispoli) demands the Vice squad back off on the their investigation due to the huge investment the ATF has made in getting Freed close to Guzman. Castillo is euqllay insistent that the submachine guns never reach the street. Wilson and Castillo begin arguing. Wilson finally agrees to let Vice's deal for the guns to go through to get the guns away from Guzman, but their involvement has to end there. Crockett asks to be taken off of the case, but Castillo refuses. Tubbs asks Crockett about Freed, but Crockett doesn't want to talk about it. Tubbs then asks Gina (Katrina Law) to pull up whatever information she can find on Freed.

Meanwhile, Guzman tells Freed that he wants to do business with Burnett and Cooper, but Freed is reluctant, but doesn't explain why. Freed goes to see Crockett on his boat. Crockett orders Freed off of his boat. Freed pulls out a gun and points it at Crockett. He then takes a bullet out of the gun and says it has Crockett's name on it. Gina tells Tubbs that Freed, Crockett and another officer, Orville, used to work together in Vice until Orville was killed while working a case. After that Freed began volunteering for every dangerous job on the books. In Crockett's car, Tubbs asks Crockett about Orville, and Crockett slams on the brakes. He is angry that Tubbs looked into Freed behind his back. Tubbs says he wouldn't have to if Crockett would talk to him like a man. Crockett says they're not friends, just partners.

Tubbs is at a nightclub dancing with a beautiful woman when Crockett comes by an asks to speak with him. Tubbs, still mad from their interaction in the car, blows Crockett off and keeps dancing with the woman. Crockett then leaves the club. Tubbs decides to go after him. They go for a drive and stop at a gas station. Crockett tells Tubbs that years eariler, a man high on PCP was waving a gun around at the gas station. Orville went in to stop him and was shot dead. The department considered it to simply be a tragic death in the line of duty, but Crockett believes Orville went in as a form of suicide. Crockett sheds a tear and describes how he, Freed and Orville had all graduated from the police academy together and eventually all worked together as a Vice unit. On one assignment they were tasked with tackling drugs at some local gay clubs. Orville requested to be taken off the case, leading Freed and Crockett to joke that it was because someone at the gay clubs might recognize him. Orville later told Crockett and Freed that was really the reason, because he was gay. Crockett didn't care, but Freed became angry with Orville and transferred out of the unit. Orville soon became depressed that one of his best friends wanted nothing to do with him and went into that gas station to die. Tubbs assures Crockett that he didn't do anything wrong.

A very drunk Freed arrives at OCB the next morning, and Crockett drags him into the conference room. Freed tells Crockett that he feels guilty for Orville's death and gets down on his knees and begs Crockett to forgive him for turning on Orville. Crockett gives Freed a hug. Freed then tells Crockett and Tubbs that the meet with Guzman is that night at midnight at the shipyard. The meet goes down, but Switek (Brad William Henke), Zito (Troy Garity), Gina and Trudy (Megalyn Echikunwoke) raid the deal disguised as patrol officers. They confiscate the guns and money. Crockett and Tubbs start walking away, vowing to get their lost money back. Guzman pulls a gun and aims for them. Freed throws himself in front of the gun and is mortally wounded. Crockett and Tubbs then shoot and kill Guzman. Crockett rushes to Freed's side. Crockett forgives Freed, telling him that Orville made his own decision that night. Orville dies in Crockett's arms.

Plot: Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Tubbs (Taye Diggs) are undercover, posing as security guards at a hotel where a couple dirty cops are suspected of extorting high-priced prostitutes. While in the lobby, a fight breaks out between a man high on PCP and his girlfriend. Crockett and Tubbs step in to break up the fight, and Crockett manages to calm the man down. As he tries to handcuff the man, the girlfriend attacks them, agitating the man again. Crockett and Tubbs drag the man outside and handcuff him to a railing outside the lobby. Crockett and Tubbs discuss how they are fed up with the detail and are not particularly interested in investigating other police officers. Lt. Castillo (Andy Garcia) reminds them that the dirty cops are not their brothers, they are criminals who should be behind bars. Crockett and Tubbs decide to try a different approach since posing as security guards has yet to yield any results.

Crockett is in disguise as a nerdy tourist at the hotel visiting Miami for the first time. He is hoping to attract the attention of one of the call girls that the dirty cops have been targeting. Sure enough, he soon catches the eye of Candy James (Halston Sage). She offers Crockett her services for $500. Crockett slyly shows her his badge and takes her into custody. At OCB, they find Candy has a long rap sheet full of prostitution charges. They inform her of the officers they are investigating and Candy agrees to help with the investigation in exchange for her record being wiped clean. Castillo agrees to the deal.

Crockett and Tubbs go to work posing as Candy's pimps. That night, Det. Ross (Jay Harrington) and Det. Garcia (Jacob Vargas) tail Candy from the hotel, pulling her over. They demand $1000 a week in exchange for her continued prostitution at the hotel. They pull her out of her car and smack her around to prove they are serious, unaware that she is wearing a wire and everything is being recorded by Crockett and Tubbs, who race toward her loction. By the time they catch up, Ross and Garcia have left. Candy is angry at being left to take a beating. Now that Crockett and Tubbs have the evidence they need, she tears off the wire and tells them she is done. Crockett and Tubbs put out an APB on Ross and Garcia to have them arrested.

On Crockett's boat the next morning, Crockett and Tubbs learn that Ross and Garcia have already been let out of jail, having been released just an hour after their arrest. Crockett is filing Elvis' nails when a man, Albert Szabo (Nestor Carbonell), approaches the boat offering a business opportunity for Crockett and Tubbs. He tells them that he knows they are running prostitutes at the hotel and ask if they'd be interested in helping him rob the hotel's safety deposit boxes. He tells them to find him at the hotel pool if they're interested. Back at OCB, they are able to identify Szabo, but are confused when his rap sheet lists just about felony in the book except robbery. Castillo instructs Crockett and Tubbs to go along with the play for the time being. Back at the hotel, Crockett is stunned to find Candy hooking at the hotel again. He threatens to have her locked up, but is forced to hold his tongue when Szarbo arrives and takes an interest in Candy. Crockett can do nothing but watch as Candy and Szarbo work out a deal and head upstairs. Later, Candy finds Crockett and Tubbs by the pool and offers to continue helping them, and hands them Szabo's car keys. The three of them go and check out the car, finding robbery equipment and a bill to a sleazy motel. Crockett and Tubbs tell Candy to leave town, but as they leave the parking garage, they are confronted by Szabo and Det. Ross, who accuses them of being snitches since he was busted after he beat Candy. Candy lies to protect Crockett and Tubbs' cover, telling Ross that she turned him in for beating her. When Ross slaps Candy again, Crockett and Tubbs beat Ross down, which convinces Szabo they are the real deal. He offers them a 50/50 split on the robbery, and that he'll have someone check out the security system the next day.

In the morning, Crockett and Tubbs learn that Szabo has gone through with the robbery without them, using sophisticated equipment to break into the hotel vault overnight, opening every safety deposit box in the room. While checking out the vault, they are surprised to find that Szabo has left jewelry and other expensive items behind. In a sleazy motel room, Szabo and an accomplice are going through the score when a masked man busts into his room with a gun. Later, Crockett and Tubbs go to the motel and find Szabo and his accomplice dead, with their bodies having been brutally mutilated.

Back at OCB, Switek (Brad William Henke) and Zito (Troy Garity) mention that Szabo's accomplice was apparently from Thailand. Castillo angrily questions why nobody told him about that sooner. Castillo then goes to the hotel to see the bodies himself. He recognizes the mutilation of the bodies as a warning sign that others don't make the same mistake they did. Crockett and Tubbs are confused by what Castillo means, and he explains that he has seen this kind of mutilation before, during his time in Asia working with the DEA when he was pursuing a major heroin dealer named Lao Li. Castillo suspects that the robbery may have been to recovery specific information regarding Asian heroin trafficking.

Crockett, Tubbs and Castillo scout every Thai and Asian restaurant in the area looking for recent immigrants. At the last Thai restaurant they visit, they find and flush out the assassin. They chase him out a back door. Castillo chases him down and faces him in an alley. Crockett and Tubbs watch, stunned, as Castillo defeats the assassin in a brutal martial arts fight. Before they can arrest him though, the assassin commits suicide by swallowing his own tongue. At OCB, Castillo theorizes that Lao Li is moving his operation to Miami. His fears are confirmed when Castillo receives a package from Lao Li containing a picture of his long-lost wife.

Plot: Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Tubbs (Taye Diggs) offer to help Castillo (Andy Garcia) find his wife, but Castillo is reluctant to take them off of their assigned cases. Crockett points out that if Lao Li is as powerful and dangerous as Castillo says, and if he has come to Miami to expand his business, and that if Castillo's wife is involved, then she is their business. Castillo relents, telling Crockett and Tubbs that Li would have likely been brought here by Dale Menton, Li's former CIA contact. Crockett and Tubbs find Menton (Jon Bon Jovi) at an Asian massage parlor and bring him in.

At OCB, Menton and Castillo reminisce about their days working in the Golden Triangle, the area where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet. Castillo asks who was responsible when his DEA team was ambushed and wiped out. Menton reminds Castillo that the DEA agents in the area had specifically been ordered by the CIA to leave Lao Li's heorin alone, as his product was being financed by local politicians friendly to American interests. Castillo had refused to follow these orders. Menton then admits that he was the one who sold out Castillo's team, giving Lao Li their position and strength so that Li's men could hit them from behind. Enraged, Castillo grabs Menton by the throat and begins choking him. Crockett and Tubbs pull Castillo away and restrain him. Menton mockingly tells Castillo that he's no threat to anyone anymore. As he leaves, Menton writes Lao Li's contact information on the Vice board and tells him he's waiting for Castillo's call.

Castillo tells Crockett and Tubbs that he had set up an ambush to intercept one of Lao Li's convoys when they were attacked. Most of his men were killed in the attack. Castillo himself barely escaped with his life. Once Li learned that Castillo survived, his men destroyed his house with grenades. Castillo had been told that his wife died in the explosion. Crockett is shocked to learn that two American agencies would betray each other like that, but Castillo simply points out that the DEA and the CIA had different objectives in the region.

Castillo gets into a limo for a private meeting with Lao Li. Castillo orders him to leave Miami, but Li responds that he is there to retire and, as he has broken no laws in the city, Castillo can't touch him. Li gives Castillo his wife's address. Castillo points out that he only brought her to America to serve as an indirect hostage. Li responds that he has no intention of harming her as that would be against the law. Later at his home, Lao Li tells his family that until Castillo loses interest and moves on they must adhere to all local laws with the strictest adherence.

Castillo visits his wife, May Ying (Li Bingbing), and is shocked to find that she is now married to a man name Ma Sek (Russell Wong) and has a teenage son. She tells Castillo that her husband was offered a job with a textile firm in Miami, which is why they have moved there. Meanwhile, despite Lao Li's warning, his grandson (Rich Ting) visits a Thai restaurant owned by Chan Wong (Hoon Lee). The two are planning to start dealing drugs together. At OCB, Castillo orders the Vice squad to blanket Lao Li's family and track their every move, hoping they'll uncover some evidence of criminal activity, while he personally protects May Ying. In a meeting at Lao Li's house, Menton tells Li that Castillo's surveillance is nothing to worry about as long as his family adheres to the law. As Menton leaves, he finds Lao Li's grandson fitting a musical air horn to a new Lamborghini. Menton warns him against being so flashy, but the young man ignores him. The Vice squad have a team meeting over dinner. Castillo admits that he cannot justify dedicating all their time to one case, and tells them that if nothing breaks in the case in the next 24 hours they will all be returned to their regular assignments. Crockett asks what that means for Lao Li. Castillo says he will handle Lao Li on his own, even taking a leave from the police department if necessary. That night, Gina (Katrina Law) and Trudy (Megalyn Echikunwoke) find Izzy Lamont (Mike Epps) at a strip club and ask him if he's heard of any drugs coming in from Asia lately, but he doesn't have any information for them.

The next day, Switek (Brad William Henke) and Zito (Troy Garity) are driving the surveillance van down the street when they see Izzy hanging out in front of a burger place. They approach him and after a little convincing he tells them about a supply of China White courtesy of Chan Wong. At Wong's restaurant, Lao Li's grandson arrives with a sample of the product, leaving it as a gift. Sqitek and Zito pull up across the street just in time to see the grandson leave. They then head inside the restaurant and bring Wong in for questioning. At OCB, Wong, who faces a drug possession charge after Switek and Zito found the sample in his pocket, tells the Vice squad that a deal is going down that night. The team plans and executes a raid on the restaurant where Lao Li's grandson is arrested. Castillo personally goes to Lao Li's house to inform him that his grandson has been arrested for dealing heroin. Meanwhile, Crockett and Tubbs go to see Menton to inform him of the bust. He tells them to get out, but they inform him that they will be able to confiscate his assets because of his connection with Lao Li and his grandson. At May Ying's house, Castillo tells May and Ma Sek that the textile company Sek works for is actually a front for Lao Li's drug operation. He tells them how dangerous Lao Li is and that the police really need the two of them to cooperate. At OCB, Castillo orders Lao Li's grandson put back on the street instead of jail, much to the surprise of the squad.

Lao Li's goons quickly snatch the grandson and take him to a warehouse where Lao Li is waiting to hear an explanation for his actions. The grandson is defiant and wants to know why he can't run his own drug dealing operation. Li orders him to be killed. Switek and Zito's surveillance catches the execution order on tape and the Vice squad moves in as thugs start strangling the grandson. Lao Li, Menton and all of Li's gang are arrested. As he is led away, Menton threatens to call his friends in Washington, but Castillo tells him that he is in American, no Asia, and he has broken the law. His friends in Washington can't do anything to help him. Outside, Lao Li tells Castillo that he has respect for him, even if he is an adversary, and states that he hopes their relationship will continue in the future. Castillo doesn't respond. Later, Castillo puts May Ying, Ma Sek and their son on a plane back to Thailand. After the plane leaves, Crockett suggests that the squad all goes out for a drink. Castillo accepts, mentioning that in the months they've worked together, they've never gone out as friends.

He announces that his name is Captain Miami and he is on a mission to rid Miami of drugs. He then tackles Tomas. Crockett and Tubbs arrest Tomas, but th so-called Captain Miami gets away.

Back at OCB, Tubbs interrogates Tomas, hoping that Tomas is ready to roll on the smugglers he stole from. An APB is put out on "Captain Miami" even though Crockett is embarrassed to make such a request. Crockett and Tubbs are called in for a meeting with Lt. Castillo (Andy Garcia), who introduces them to Miami-Dade Police Commissioner Hank Wallace (Lance Reddick). Wallace requests that a reporter be able to follow the Vice squad around to record a day in the life of a Miami Vice cop. Crockett and Tubbs object to the idea, but Wallace tells them that he was merely asking to appear courteous. The reporter will be tagging along with them whether they like it or not.

Tomas, who was out on bail after stone-walling Tubbs, turns up dead. When Crockett and Tubbs leave the crime scene, they see Captain Miami yelling at a crowd of people about the drug problems, asking others to join him on his mission to rid Miami of drugs. Most people simply laugh at his antics. Crockett chases Captain Miami off, telling him if he sees him and his stupid shirt again that he'll put him behind bars. Tubbs receives a phone call and tells Crockett that he just received word that they have a buy set up with the smugglers Tomas robbed. Crockett is excited since he's sure the smugglers must be the ones who had Tomas killed.

Izzy Lamont (Mike Epps) is running a scam on some Japanese tourists on the beach when Captain Miami shows up and reveals himself as Lamont's cousin Marcus, who tells him about his run-in with the Vice squad. Lamont tells Marcus to be careful, as he isn't sure who is scarier, the drug dealers or an angry Sonny Crockett. Back at OCB, the Vice squad is introduced to the reporter, Eric Terrio (Kyle Bornheimer). Terrio excitedly talks about getting Captain Miami's message on the next episode of his news show. Crockett and Tubbs, along with Terrio, are running surveillance on the smugglers when Captain Miami shows up once again. Terrio points his camera at Captain Miami as Crockett arrests the vigilante.

Back at OCB, Crockett and Tubbs interrogate Marcus. Terrio asks if he can record the interrogation, but Castillo keeps him out of the room. After the interrogation, Terrio interviews Captain Miami for his show. After they release him, Marcus dress back up as Captain Miami and almost immediately finds a minor drug deal to break up. Marcus beats up the drug dealer and throws the money to a nearby crowd of people, who happily fight over the flying bills. Later that day, while Marcus is walking down the street in his costume, he narrowly avoids being shot in a drive-by shooting.

Lamont is on the beach selling Captain Miami shirts he had made up when Crockett and Tubbs show up and ask Lamont to convince Marcus to let them take him into protective custody. Lamont goes to see his cousin and convinces him to come into OCB for his own protection. Marcus is taken into protective custody while Crockett and Tubbs head to their meet with the smugglers. While talking with Gina (Katrina Law), Marcus reveals that he began his crusade against drugs after his daughter died of an overdose.

At the meet, the smugglers want Crockett and Tubbs to kill the Captain Miami character in order to prove themselves. After the meeting, Crockett and Tubbs head to the hotel that Marcus was stashed at. They find him gone and Gina locked in the bathroom. Crockett and Tubbs track down Lamont and demand to know where Marcus could be, but he doesn't know. Gina has the idea to head to the place where Marcus' daughter died. They arrive to find Marcus crying outside of an abandoned house. They bring Marcus to a hospital where he is put under psychiatric evaluation. The smugglers call Tubbs and tell him that they are ready to deal now that Captain Miami is at least locked up.

Lamont sneaks into the hospital dressed as a doctor and breaks Marcus out. The two meet up with Terrio who wants to follow Captain Miami as he goes to thwart the drug deal. Terrio reveals a brand new costume he had made for Marcus. Captain Miami arrives to break up the drug deal. The smugglers fire on him, and Crockett and Tubbs fire on the smugglers. In the end, the smugglers and Marcus are all killed. Terrio is shocked by witnessing such death in person. He then mentions the ratings his show will get. Crockett then knocks him out. Tubbs consoles Lamont over the loss of his cousin.

Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Tubbs (Taye Diggs) show up at Lombard's yacht to serve a subpoena for Lombard to testify at the trial of his rival Librizzi. In exchange for his testimony, they tell him that he will receive immunity from prosecution. Lombard congratulates them for trapping him, explaining to Salvatore that if he pleads the Fifth he will go to jail for contempt, but that if he testifies Librizzi will have him killed. He then asks Crockett and Tubbs to leave his yacht. Later, Lombard discusses the dilemma with his right-hand man Charlie Fusco (William DeMeo). He tells Charlie to sit down with Librizzi to tell him that he won't tell the cops anything.

Lt. Castillo (Andy Garcia) orders Switek (Brad William Henke) and Zito (Troy Garity) to keep close tabs on Lombard. He doesn't want him running and he doesn't want Librizzi's men taking him out. Charlie meets with Librizzi (Michael Imperioli) at a pizza place. He tries to assure Librizzi that Lombard isn't going to talk, but Librizzi is unconvinced and unwilling to take Lombard simply at his word. Librizzi offers to let Charlie take over Lombard's action if he takes him out of the picture. Switek and Zito are following Lombard to a restaurant when Lombard's car is shot up in a motorcycle drive-by. Switek and Zito rush Lombard to the hospital.

Crockett and Tubbs visit Lombard at the hospital to offer to put him into protective custody. Lomnard refuses, comparing protective custody to jail. He then gets up and checks himself out of the hospital. Lt. Castillo tells Crockett and Tubbs to stick near Lombard in case he needs help. Crockett isn't happy about the idea, thinking that if Lombard doesn't want their help they shouldn't give it, but agrees regardless.

On Lombard's yacht, Charlie pulls a gun on Lombard. Charlie explains that Librizzi will give him all of Lombard's territory if he kills him. Lombard closes his eyes, resigned to his fate when he hears gun shots. He opens his eyes and sees that Crockett and Tubbs have shot and killed Charlie before he could kill Lombard. Lombard thanks the officers and accepts their offer of protective custody since he's sick of almost being killed.

Crockett and Tubbs drive Lombard to an apartment complex on the outside of town. As they get out of the car, a truck pulls up in front of them and men with guns open fire. Crockett and Tubbs find him and take him to Crockett's sailboat. Crockett and Tubbs inform Lombard that after the trial he will enter the witness protection program.

On the day of the trial, Lombard is called to the stand. Instead of testifying he clams up and pleads the Fifth. Salvatore leaves the courtroom, disappointed in his father. The judge orders Lombard to be remanded and jailed for contempt. Lombard posts bail and is released from the jail. He walks down the street, looking over his shoulder at every turn.

Plot: Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Tubbs (Taye Diggs) are at the tail end of an overnight stakeout outside of the hideout of a known drug dealer. As the sun rises, Switek (Brad William Henke) and Zito (Troy Garity) arrive to relieve them as Crockett has an appointment to meet with his soon to be ex-wife and her lawyers regarding the custody agreement regarding their son. At the meeting he sees his ex Caroline (Amanda Righetti) for the first time in a long while and is overwhelmed with feelings for her. He asks her if they can try to start again. Her lawyers immediately object, but Caroline tells them they're fired and leaves to get lunch with Crockett.

Meanwhile, the dealer finally leaves his hideout, only to be immediately gunned down. The shooter quickly speeds away from the scene. Switek and Zito give chase in the surveillance van, but the are not able to catch up and the shooter gets away. They put out an APB on the getaway vehicle and head back to check on the dealer, who they find dead. Not long after, a squad car reports seeing the getaway vehicle outside of a motel near the beach. Tubbs goes to investigate the motel with Trudy (Megalyn Echikunwoke), but don't find the shooter. They do however find some guns and a notebook containing what appears to be a hit list. Crockett and Caroline are in bed when there is a knock at the door. It's Tubbs and Lt. Castillo (Andy Garcia). They show him the hit list and tell him that six of the eight names on the list are already dead, and that one of the two remaining names is Crockett himself.

At OCB, Gina (Katrina Law) and Castillo pull up DEA files on the names on the hit list. Everyone aside from Crockett was a mid-level drug dealer. Fingerprints collected from the guns in the motel room turn out to belong to a hitman named Carlos Mendez. Castillo recognizes the name from his time with the DEA and immediately orders Crockett to get his family and take them to a safe house. Crockett insists that he can protect his own family and doesn't need to hide in a safe house. Castillo insists and personally escorts Crockett to his boat to get clothes, and tells Switek and Zito to collect Crockett's wife Caroline and their son and take them to the safe house. Meanwhile Trudy is going through the files on Carlos Mendez and finds a connection to escaped drug kingpin Calderone. Mendez (Gabriel Chavarria) spots Crockett and Castillo at the marina and opens fire on them. Castillo shoves Crockett out of the way, taking a bullet in the process. Mendez flees the marina.

Castillo is taken to the hospital. The bullet thankfully just hit him in the shoulder. In Castillo's hospital room, the vice squad discusses the hit list. Trudy has found ties between Calderone and all six of the dead dealers on the hit list. Crockett and Tubbs decide to track down the final name on the list, Linus Oliver (CeeLo Green). They find him conducting business at his usual nightclub and convince him to set up a meeting with Mendez at the club. Crockett then goes to see his wife and son at the safe house. He tells them that everything will be alright. The rest of the Vice squad waits for Mendez to arrive at the club to meet Linus. When Mendez arrives, they arrest him. Tubbs calls Crockett and lets him know that they caught Mendez. Crockett tells Caroline and his son that they caught the bad guy and that it is safe to go home now.

Back at OCB, Tubbs aggressively interrogates Mendez, but Mendez doesn't give anything up. Castillo interrupts the interrogation to tell Tubbs that Linus has been found shot dead in his car. Tubbs realizes that there must be another assassin working the hit list, and that Crockett is now the only target left. Tubbs tries calling Crockett, but he doesn't answer his phone. Tubbs then speeds across the city toward Caroline's house.

When Crockett enters the house with Caroline and his son. Crockett pulls his son out of the way just as the assassin begins firing. Tubbs rushes into the house to help Crockett as the hitman crashes through a window to escape, only to find a phalanx of Metro-Dade police cars waiting for him. He opens fire on them, and they quickly gun him down. Caroline tells Crockett that things aren't going to work out between them. She'll always love him, but his dangerous life is not conducive to raising their son. Crockett tells her that he understands and he'll call her lawyers in the morning to tell them the divorce is back on. Meanwhile at OCB, Mendez has finally cracked under questioning by Castillo. Mendez tells Castillo that Calderone is in The Bahamas.

Plot: At OCB, Crockett (Josh Holloway) and Tubbs (Taye Diggs) work to get more information regarding Calderone's whereabouts from hitman Mendez (Gabriel Chavarria). Mendez eventually reveals that Calderone is on St. Andrews Island along with a woman named Angelina. The hitman who tried to kill Crockett, named Ludovic, was set to fly down to the island to collect his payment. Mendez jokes that Calderone and his people had never even met Ludovic before. This gives Crockett the idea of heading down to the Bahamas to locate and capture Calderone and bring him back to Miami to face justice. They clear it with Lt. Castillo (Andy Garcia), who has an article planted in the Miami Herald about Crockett being killed by an unknown assailant.

Crockett and Tubbs set off across the ocean in Crockett's speed boat toward the islands. When they arrive on St. Andrews, Tubbs and Crockett go straight to their hotel, checking in under the name Ludovic. Once they settle in, they head down to the hotel bar where they meet the bartender Walters (Jason Mitchell) who tells them that if either of them need anything, drugs, women, anything at all, he's the guy to see. Tubbs goes to explore the island where he meets a beautiful woman who introduces herself as Angelina (Alexa PenaVega). They talk and she tells him that she is a teacher on the island. Meanwhile, Crockett checks in with the local police chief Albury (Harold Perrineau), who says that Calderone hasn't been seen on the island in some time.

Later that night, Crockett and Tubbs watch Angelina through binoculars from the beach. She is on a yacht and they quickly notice that Calderone is also on board the boat. Crockett once again reminds Tubbs that they are there to capture Calderone, not fall in love with his woman. Tubbs tells him not to worry, he is not going to let anything stand in the way of them capturing his brother's murderer. Back at the hotel, Crockett sees his own obituary in the Miami Herald newspaper. Walters delivers a message to Crockett. Calderone's people want to meet to settle his payment. Posing as Ludovic, Crockett meets with one of Calderone's representatives, a man named Pino (Carlos Gomez). Crockett demands an additional $50,000 for the job since no body informed him that Crockett was a cop. He also demands to be paid in person by Calderone himself, or Pino will become the next person on his list. Pino tells him that he will give Calderone the message. When Pino tells Calderone (Marc Anthony) of the meeting, Calderone is furious.

Tubbs visits Angelina at her school and asks her out on a date. She accepts and they arrange to meet at a beach party. Crockett and Tubbs meet back up and go to fill in Chief Albury on the latest developments. He tells them that he was just told that Calderone has left the island a week prior. They become suspicious of Albury since they just saw Calderone on his yacht. They tell Albury that they will be heading back to Miami. Tubbs decides to see Angelina and ask her about Calderone, but instead he ends up having sex with her. Afterwards, he sees a picture of Calderone in her bedroom. He asks her if the picture of is of her lover. She laughs and tells Tubbs that the picture is of her father. Back at the hotel, Tubbs admits to Crockett that he has feelings for Angelina.

At the beach party, Tubbs and Angelina dance together. While drinking at the bar, Crockett is kidnapped at gunpoint by some of Calderone's thungs, who take him to a waiting boat. Taking a break from dancing, Tubbs decides to tell Angelina the truth, that he's a cop looking to arrest her father. Angelina doesn't believe her father is a criminal, but Tubbs tells her that Calderone had his brother killed. Angelina helps Tubbs sneak into Calderone's mansion on the island. She overhears her father ordering Albury to have one of his men execute Crockett. Crockett is then brought into the room. Tubbs burts in and shoots Calderone's thugs. Crockett disarms the men restraining him. Calderone reaches for a gun and aims at Tubbs, but Crockett shoots Calderone with one of the thugs' guns. Calderone collapses to the floor dead, while Angelina looks on, crying hysterically.

Crockett and Tubbs watch on as Albury is arrested. Tubbs tries to comfort Angelina, but she doesn't want anything to do with him. Tubbs tries to explain that his feeling for her are real. She says that she understands why he did what he did, but she still feels used and betrayed. She wishes Tubbs a good life and leaves. Crockett and Tubbs begin traveling back toward Miami on Crockett's speed boat.
