Plot: Prince Vlad Tepes (Oscar Isaac) of Transylvania rules his kingdom in peace until it is besieged by Sultan Mehmed (Toby Kebbell) and the Ottoman Empire. Mehmed and his troops slaughter Vlad's people, including Vlad's wife (Camilla Belle) and children. Vlad narrowly escapes his castle and treks into the mountains where there is legend of a mystic who can grant wishes. Vlad finally finds the mystic (Andy Garcia) and wishes to have the power to defeat his enemies and avenge the deaths of his wife and children. The mystic warns him that such power will come at a great cost. Vlad does not care and drinks the mystics blood from a chalice. Vlad, uses his new vampiric powers to slay the Mehmed and his troops. Having avenged the murder of his family, Vlad turns into a flock of bats that head toward the mountains.
