Plot: Alice (Merritt Wever) is cooking dinner in her kitchen, lit only by a candle and the fireplace she uses to cook meat. She looks outside by the window, it’s submerged in darkness. She can barely see the light coming from her neighbour’s house, as the snow keeps falling and the winds keep blowing. She looks at the food she cooked and looks at her kids, Emily (Thomasin McKenzie) and Jimmy (Sunny Suljic), playing a card game in the living room. She takes food off her plate and separates it between her two children. She calls them to the dining room and they start eating, in silence. Alice’s ancestral home usually cracks, like every old house do, but the noise she hears now isn’t simply her house cracking. It becomes louder and louder, she knows what’s coming and her kids do to. They run around the house, putting out the candles and placing barricades on the window. They hide under the table.
Outside, raid leader Bernhard (Mikael Persbrandt) is leading his men on a raid, near Alice’s home. He says it’s been a long time since they’ve come here, so they don’t know if they should expect resistance. Bernhard sends a handful of men to the neighbour (who also barricaded his home) and he goes over with a few men to Alice’s house. They knock on the windows as Alice holds on tight to her rifle. Emily is shaking under the table and the old wooden table squeaks as it moves. Bernhardt can hear a faint squeaking and he signals his men to enter. He starts hitting the front door, blocked by a night table and he opens it. He sees Alice under the table and she points her gun at him. Bernhard and his men circle Alice and her family, while she threatens him with her rifle. He asks her if she really thinks he’s afraid of her and he moves closer to her, so the barrel hits against his chest. He hits her with his right hand and Alice drops the rifle. A man seizes Emily and he wants to do something with her. Bernhard grabs Alice’s rifle and Jimmy tries to defend his sister. Bernhard grabs him too and he hits him so hard that he’s knocked out cold. Bernhard caresses Alice’s cheek as he wants to get intimate with her, while his men try to do the same thing with Emily. They hear gunshots from coming from the neighbour’s house and leave. Bernhard guarantees Alice he will come back. They leave with Jimmy and when Alice tries to prevent them, Bernhard kicks her down.
Barricaded in his house, Frank (Shea Whigham) tries to shoot the raiders through cracks in his window. He shoots two of them and when Bernhard comes back and he sees two of his men down, he orders everyone to retreat. They scavenged enough from the other houses today. As they retreat, Frank shouts at them that he will kill them all of he has to, and he suggests them to never come back here. He exits his house and swears when he finds out that they left with his propane.
Erik (Lars Mikkelsen) stands tall behind a podium. He’s dressed from head-to-toe in black. He looks down at the crowd, all dressed in white. He reminds them that the end of the blizzard is near, he can feel it. He also reminds them that they will benefit from his protection until this is all over. He says new tasks will be assigned shortly and they must remain strong in the face of adversity. They all applaud him as he heads off the stage and he retreats in his quarters. He’s followed by a man, all dressed in dark green, Richard (Alistair Petrie). Erik asks Richard how is everything going amongst the tenants and he says that everything is going nice and easy.
In another attached bunker, in a tiny room, Spencer (Ben McKenzie) looks at a photograph of Alice, Emily and Jimmy. His roommate, Justine (Betsy Brandt) asks him how long it has been since he has seen her and as a tear drops down his face, he says it’s been way too long. She hugs him for a long time.
Alice tries to comfort her daughter after they kidnapped Jimmy. Emily wants to head back out to look for her brother and Alice has to physically restrain her from leaving the house. She calms her down as they hug and she says perhaps Jimmy is better with them than he would be here, there’s only so much she can do and at least he’ll be protected and fed with them. Emily asks her mom if she’ll ever see him again and Alice says she’ll do everything to find him once this is all over, but there’s nothing she can do about it. They decide to light some candles to get out of obscurity and they remove the barricades from the window. Alice stops dead in her tracks, she heard another squeaking and cracking, but much lighter than the last time. She holds tight to her rifle, looking around her, Emily hiding behind her. The door opens an it’s just Frank coming over to see if everything alright. Alice sighs in relief and is relieved that it’s just her neighbour. Frank curses, saying they stole his propane tank. Alice starts crying when she says they stole her son. Frank tries to comfort her and she starts crying in his arms.
Back at the bunker, Erik walks around the facility with Richard. He’s walking near a series of small cells and he looks around, smiling subtly. Richard looks as serious as ever. Erik glances on his right as he walks and he sees Spencer and Justine in their cells sleeping. Erik whispers something in Erik’s ear and they cut their walk short to go back in Erik’s quarters. Erik asks Richard if they have enough people, because they need to strike soon.
Miles away, in the middle of nowhere, Bernhard comes back to his hideout with his group and they start inventorying what they managed to get today. Once they’re done Bernhard sits near a fire and someone brings Jimmy next to him, who’s freezing. They put some furs on him and Bernhard tells him he’s one of them now. Jimmy refuses to eat and Bernhard advises against it, or else he’s going to regret it. As the camera zooms out, we see an enormous village built by Bernhard’s men.

Plot: Richard (Alistair Petrie) dresses up in his military attire and repeatedly clears his throat. He leaves his room and his most-trusted subrogate, Chris (David Denman) stands besides his door. Once Richard is out, Chris salutes him and Richard tells him to cut the crap and Chris argues that it’s protocol. Richard agrees that they never know who may be watching them around here. Richard grabs a cane and starts walking with Chris. They walk around the cells, calling for all men to go in the community center immediately. Moments later, Richard stands in front of all of them on the stage and he starts to tell them why they are here, Erik (Lars Mikkelsen) watches on, smiling.
Alice (Merritt Wever) is laying flat on her stomach in the snow, all dressed up in her winter gear. Smoke comes out of her mouth and she breathes in and out. Emily (Thomasin McKenzie) is laying next to her. She asks her mother how is she able to grab see anything in the blizzard and Alice says you get used to it, before urging her daughter to keep quiet. Alice grabs her rifle and sets her sight on a target. She fires and kills a small deer. They go near it and find out that the deer isn’t dead and Alice says she hates doing this and kills it while looking away. Emily asks her how they’re going to be able to drag it all the way back home and Alice says she always finds a way to manage. Emily reminds her Jimmy isn’t there anymore and Alice says it doesn’t matter, she always does the heavy lifting. Emily notes that it’s not what she told Jimmy when they usually came back and Alice says that’s what being a mother is all about. It was difficult times and she needed to cheer them up. That’s the way she found to cheer Jimmy up. They each grab a pair of legs and start pulling. Emily falls on the ground, because she pulls too much, but they’re able to drag it. It leaves a trail of blood behind and Alice says it can’t happen, but there’s nothing they can do about it if not to hope the blizzard will cover it up. Emily asks what will happen if they leave a blood trail and she says that’s how these men find them the other day.
Jimmy (Sunny Suljic) sits around a campfire buried in furs, trying to eat a burned meat stump. He doesn’t know what they put on it, but it’s absolutely disgusting. The man sitting next to him, Lars (Ross O’Henessy) laughs it off and Jimmy throws the meat away. Lars gets up and gets Bernhard (Mikael Persbrandt), his leader. Bernhard sits next to Jimmy, looking serious. He asks him why he refuses to eat and he says he doesn’t want to be here. Bernhard taps him on the back, saying he misses his mother’s cooking and he laughs. He says they bring him here so he can be safe and he will be safer here than he would be with his mother back home. Jimmy says his mother is more courageous than he will ever be. Bernhard laughs it off and asks him how is her mother more courageous than him if she let him leave with him. He laughs it off and leaves, telling Lars to feed the boy no matter what. They need him, they need everyone they can get.
Richard and Chris ask everyone if they understood everything correctly. They all answer positively. Richard introduces Erik to the crowd and people applause him, everyone, but Spencer (Ben McKenzie). Erik asks everyone to take all of this seriously. This is for their safety and the safety of their country. Erik tells them he understands their concern and he heard their voice, they will do everything they can to bring their families here.
Not far away from there, Frank (Shea Whigham) rides his snowmobile and sees a beaming spotlight on the horizon. He decides to follow the light, as if he’s hypnotized, not getting his eyes off of it. The blizzard doesn’t help and he can’t really see in front of him. He collides with a high fence and it breaks the fence. Frank grabs his binoculars and has a look at what’s in front of him. Inside, an alarm rings in Richard’s office and Chris takes a look at the infra-red monitors and he sees Frank taking a look at their buildings. He presses a button and an alarm rings in the community center, sending out everyone. On their way out, they each grab a weapon and go to the fence. Spencer is able to sneak out and go back to his cell with a weapon. Frank gets back on his snowmobile as he hears the alarm and he’s long gone when Erik’s army arrives.
Alice is completely worn out when she gets back from her hunting trip with Emily. We found out she already cut the beast and kept in salt so it doesn’t go bad. She goes to her room and lays down on her bed. She sees a box in her wardrobe and she decides to open it. It contains family photos of her, Emily, Jimmy and Spencer. She starts crying while looking at them and falls asleep with a family picture close to her chest. Downstairs, Emily is worried about her mother and she goes to check on her. When she finds out she’s asleep, she decides to do something to get some load of her shoulders. She decides to start cooking dinner. We see Emily preparing dinner using rudimentary methods, like a return to ancient times. They have no electricity, which doesn’t make things easier. When she’s done, she wakes her mother up and Alice is embarrassed that her daughter saw her vulnerable side, but Emily assures her it’s alright. Alice is pleased by the surprise dinner and they start to eat. It’s not good, but Alice acts like it’s good. They hear Frank’s snowmobile approaching. He knocks on their door and Alice invites them in. Frank asks them if he can eat with them, he saw something and he wants to share it with Alice. Alice warns him that Emily’s cooking isn’t really good and he says he can make an effort. He shares with her what he saw today and Alice says she wants to see it with her own eyes. It must be where Spencer or Jimmy is. Frank says she can’t leave her daughter alone and Emily says she’s good on her own, she isn’t a child anymore. Plot: Jimmy (Sunny Suljic) is reluctantly following the trail of blood left behind by the deer his mother killed, although he doesn’t know that yet, he still has no idea where he is. Bernhard (Mikael Persbrandt) and Lars (Ross O’Hennessy) keep pushing him so he’ll keep up with them. Bernhard tells Jimmy that’s why people should cover their tracks, but Jimmy doesn’t listen to him anymore. He stopped looking at a particular tree, so majestic he’d never mistake it for another tree. He realises where he is now, he has seen this tree before, the exact same one. He’s headed back home. He tries to run away, but Bernhard catches him and he asks him why he tried to run away and Jimmy doesn’t answer. Bernhard asks Lars to keep an eye on him until they reach their destination.
Not far away, Emily (Thomasin McKenzie) walks in her house with a candle. She enters her mom’s room and finds the box of pictures and she starts looking at them. She sees her parents when they were young and they met. Her father was so handsome, all her friends kept telling her so back when life was normal. In a flashback sequence, we see the whole family playing a board game all together, people were happy, Emily was smiling. She sheds a tear remembering these old times, asking herself when is her life be back to the way it was. She misses her father, she misses Jimmy and she misses her friends, god knows where they are now. She’s brought back to reality by Bernhard, standing in the door frame, asking her if she misses them. Emily starts screaming and tries to run past him and he tells her it’s all for nothing, nobody’s going to hear her and nobody’s going to save her. She screams for Alice to come help her, but Alice is far away from home.
In fact, Alice (Merritt Wever) is holding on tight to Frank (Shea Whigham) as they ride his snowmobile. His tracks are still visible on the ground, making it easier for him to find the buildings again. She asks him again what he found, and he says he found rows of building, with big lights and alarms, all that sort of things. Wherever people they love are taken, it must be there. He gets all excited when he sees the spotlight and this time, he stops before the fence. They get off the snowmobile and crouch down in the snow, spying with their binoculars. Alice says it’s worthless, she’s going in through the hole in fence made by Frank earlier. Frank says it’s a bad idea, but Alice is already past the fence. Frank tells her to not get in trouble and he’ll stay here, in case they need to leave in a hurry.
Inside the buildings, Richard (Alistair Petrie) is called to the surveillance room and he takes a look at the cameras. He asks his man if he confirms it’s the same guy from earlier and he says it is. He says a woman came with him this time and she entered the premises. He switches the infrared mode off and prints a picture of Alice from the footage. He grabs the picture and leaves and he says to get him if they leave and to keep watching him in case he tries to do something.
Outside his own home, Jimmy screams, trying to get his sister to answer, because he hasn’t heard a thing since Bernhard got inside. He asks Lars if he can get inside, but he says he would never allow it, he knows damn well where they are. He takes a group of men, including Jimmy and they break into Frank’s house.
Inside, Emily is nervously shaking as Bernhard is sitting next to her on Alice’s bed. Emily breaks the silence and she asks if he’s going to force himself on her and Bernhard says he’s many things, but he’s not a sexual predator. She asks him why he’s doing this to people, scare them like that and stealing their things. Bernhard says he’s mostly misunderstood. He isn’t some kind of thug, he’s building a community, he’s bringing people together so they can have a normal life. Emily says he’s not bringing people together, he’s kidnapping them so he has more thugs to steal from people. Bernhard touches her on the shoulder and she gets away from him. She uses the opportunity to go in the kitchen. Used to her home, she’s able to run in the dark with ease, as opposed to Bernhard. She grabs a kitchen knife and hides under the table. When Bernhard gets close to her, she stabs him in the leg twice and he tumbles to the ground, screaming in pain. Emily runs outside and screams her brother’s name, in case he hears her. Jimmy hears her, but he’s held by Lars, so he can’t answer. Bernhard is now back up and swears revenge on Emily, so she runs away in the woods behind the house.
Justine (Betsy Brandt) comes back in her cell and she sees Spencer (Ben McKenzie) telling her not to say a word. He lifts his mattress up and he hid a gun underneath. She asks him how he managed to get a hold of that and as he’s trying to tell her, Richard arrives in their cell’s row and bangs on the bars with his cane. Everyone heads out and he says they’ve been chosen to do a clean sweep of the buildings. They are looking for what may be a threat to the establishment and everything it represents. They want her alive, so if they find her, they must report her to his office. He gives them a picture each. Spencer’s jaw drops to the floor when he recognizes Alice.
Alice is careful when walking around the buildings. She opens a door and finds herself in the canteen. She walks amongst the food and grabs some off the table as she goes in another room, wondering where she is. She hears people talking in another room and she sees a room full of people doing yoga, as if nothing is happening. She walks in a corridor and looks at the closed doors, wondering where she’s going to happen next. She hears people coming and she hides in a room with no one in it. She takes a look at the people who came her way and recognizes Spencer. She carefully opens the door and stands in the corridor behind them, as he gets further away from her.
Outside, Frank is sitting on the snowmobile, looking at the horizon, his back turned from the buildings. A commando of men, led by Chris (David Denman) is slowly getting closer to Frank with guns in their hands. They pass through the hole in the fence and pin Frank to the ground.
Emily is seen breathing heavily in the woods, with nowhere to go. She looks around her and she has no idea where she is, but she knows she’s still close to home. She looks back behind her and she sees she left a trail in the snow.

They run towards each other and Spencer makes sure that it’s really her. He asks her how did she find him and she says it’s all because of Frank, their neighbour and they kiss passionately. They both say they missed each other and Spencer asks how are the kids. Alice starts crying and she tells him they savages got Jimmy, but Emily is fine. Spencer hugs her even tighter and he says that everything’s going to be alright once he gets back with them. They’ll find Jimmy and they’ll manage on their own. She asks hm what he’s doing here and before he has a chance to answer, Justine (Betsy Brandt) interrupts them, saying people are coming this way. They hide in a room and Alice takes a look and sees Frank (Shea Whigham) being escorted by Chris’s (David Denman) commando. She tells Spencer that they got Frank and asks him what is this place ? He says he doesn’t really know himself. They got told that everyone who wasn’t here were the enemy and they were led to believe that this was a safe place, that everyone else were savages and were meant to har them. Alice asks him if he believed that and he says he never believed it, but it’s impossible to get out of there, he tried.
Frank is brought to Erik (Lars Mikkelsen) who sits in his office, dressed in all black, as usual. Richard (Alistair Petrie) is standing next to him, also as usual. They stand in silence and Erik finally breaks the tension by asking Frank who he is and why did he try to break in their facility. Frank answers back with some questions of his own, asking him where the hell is he and what is this place. Richard pins him back against his chair and tells him that he’s not in a position to be asking questions, so he better answer. Frank reluctantly tells them is name, but he swears that he wasn’t trying to break in. They say they have him on camera, companied by a woman, breaking in the facility. He should tell them why he came here, or else they will kill his lady friend when they find her.

Justine tells Spencer that they better get back , because he remembers what happened last time he missed a countdown. Alice pleads him to come with her and Spencer says he really can’t, or else they’ll torture Justine. Alice says it’s nice of him to choose a stranger over his wife and kids. Spencer assures her that it’s not about that. He can’t leave and she can’t stay here, it’s unfortunate, but it’s the way it is. He promises her that he’ll be out of here soon and she asks him how he’s going to do that. He says he has a plan, but he doesn’t want to elaborate on that. Justine grabs him by the arm and she says they have to go now. Spencer gives her his gun, in case she needs it and Alice starts crying and asks him how he’ll be able to leave, but Spencer is out of her sight. She remembers they are looking for her, so she traces back her step.
When Spencer and Justine get back in their cell, they are met by Erik and Richard in their cell block. They announce to everyone that a new person will join them, his name is Frank. A soldier pushes Frank forward. He’s bleeding from the mouth and nose and he seems dizzy. They assign him to a cell, right next to Spencer and Justine’s. Spencer tries to get his attention, but Frank is out of it. Murmurs around the cell block say people are starting to feel like they are prisoners rather than protected from their own good. Back in their cell, Justine finally gets the chance to ask Spencer aout the gun he stole and she asks him if it’s all about his plan to get out of here and he says it is. He hides the gun under his mattress again when Richard comes knocking on their door, telling Spencer that his gun was missing when they came back and he better have a good reason.
Alice is back where she left Frank and she wonders if she should wait for him. She glances back at the buildings and she sees something moving in her direction. She gets closer to take a look and she finds out that it’s a camera. She runs back to the snowmobile and takes off, heading back home.
Emily (Thomasin McKenzie) is crouching on the ground in the forest, nervous. She listens to every sound, the wind, the snow, the animals, everything. She holds on to her rifle closely. She’s beginning to fall asleep, but she can’t fall asleep. It’s cold outside, she would need to make a fire, like her mother thought her in their backyard when she was younger. She gets up when she realises that she’s alone in the wilderness and she covers her tracks behind her with snow. The process is tedious, but worth it. She puts together a small camp fire and she struggles to light the thing on fire, but she’s ultimately successful. She sighs in relief and gets closer to the fire to benefit from the warmth. She falls asleep, hoping to be able to open her eyes once again.
Alice gets back home in the middle of the night and she sees that all the candles are still lit and she’s proud of her daughter, because she stayed up, like she thought her too. She enters the house and finds out that it was ravaged by people. She starts calling for Emily, but soon comes to realise that she isn’t home. Alice starts crying on her bed. She lets her head rest on the side and sees something by the window. There’s a trail outside. It’s not foot trails, but something else. She wipes her tears, hoping for the best.

Ben McKenzie .... Spencer
Sunny Suljic .... Jimmy
Ross O'Hennessy .... Lars
Alistair Petrie .... Richard
David Denman .... Chris
Ola Rapace .... Gustav

Plot: Bernhard (Mikael Persbrandt) is back from his raid with Lars (Ross O’Hennessy) and Jimmy (Sunny Suljic) and Bernhard goes to rest in his quarters while Lars goes back to his place with Jimmy, making sure that he’s still following him. We see the scavangers’ village, built entirely by hand with stolen stuff. People warming themselves with bonfires and at the center of the village, a huge pit was dug and people throw all sorts of garbage in there so it never wears out. Lars and Jimmy pass in front of the weapon’s cache of the village, filled with capacities with guns of all sorts, knives and bows. Jimmy looks interested and he asks what they’re planning to do with all these weapons. Lars is surprised to see that Jimmy wants to make conversation and he says that what they will do is not of his business, he’s too young anyway. Lars goes back home to his two brothers, Gustav (Ola Rapace) and Gunnar (Pilou Asbaek) who tease him about Jimmy. They ask Lars why Bernhard thinks this kid is special and he says that’s not the case, he’s just a kid. They find it weird that he decided to keep the kid with him, rather than put him with the other kids. Back at his place, Bernhard looks at the horizon and he says to his wife, Nora (Nina Hoss) that it’s almost time, they’re ready.
It’s particularly windy that night and Alice (Merritt Wever) has a hard time walking in the thick snow and keeping a steady course. The blizzard is intense and she can barely see in front of her. She drags her feet in the snow, leaving a visible trail behind her, but she doesn’t mind. She just want to follow the trail of rocks before she can’t see it anymore. She replaces her scarf to cover her nose and carries on.
Back the facility, Spencer (Ben McKenzie) is tied up to a chair with blood dripping down his mouth. Chris (David Denman) enters the room with Richard (Alistair Petrie) and he says that it looks like he won’t talk. Richard grabs Spencer by the chin and he tells him that their leader is there to speak to him now and he better open up, or he won’t like what’s coming for him. Erik (Lars Mikkelsen) enters the room and he asks Richard and Chris to leave him alone with Spencer. They ask if he’s sure and Erik points out that Spencer is beat up and tied to a chair, what’s the worst that can happen. Now that they’re alone, Erik paces around the room and he tells Spencer that he knows he’s smart guy and he has probably figured out what’s going here by now. Spencer doesn’t say a word and Erik gets closer to his face. He says he can talk, he’s not going to hurt him anymore. Spencer spits out blood and he says he believes Erik is forming some sort of army, but he doesn’t know. He also knows the outside world is not turning crazy as they want them to believe. He’s essentially in prison. Erik smiles and he tells Spencer that he knows his wife came to visit him earlier today. Spencer asks him how does is know about that and Erik says he knows everything about everyone here. He also knows about Emily and Jimmy. Spencer asks Erik what does he want from him and Erik says that if he doesn’t share what he knows, he may be able to arrange for him to meet with his family. Spencer says he doesn’t know if Erik will keep his end of the bargain and Erik smiles, saying he’ll just have to trust him, just like he will trust Spencer to do the right thing. Richard comes in and tells Erik that they have a problem and they leave in a hurry.
Bernhard runs in Lars’ home, waking up Jimmy, Gustav and Gunnar and he tells them that it’s time. They all dress up quickly while Bernhard tells them the plan. They will bring equipment and they will go stalk them and they need to find a flaw in their security. This is really important for what’s to come. Bernhard tells Jimmy that there’s no way he comes with them. He orders Lars to bring him with the other children and he does.
Emily (Thomasin McKenzie) wakes up suddenly in the middle of the night. Her fire died and her eyes aren’t used to the obscurity. She can barely see ahead of her. The wind is blowing and under that sound, she can hear wolves howling. She tries to see if it’s nearby but can’t see anything. She hears another howl, coming from a different place, but she’s not sure if it’s a second wolf, or just the wind messing with the sounds. She digs in the ground for her rifle and crawls in the snow. She stops for an instant as she sees a pair of yellow in front of her. She slowly gets back on her knees and tries to back off, but she hears another wolf behind her. She looks to her left and she sees another one, same thing on her right. She moves slowly, carefully, but the wolves are following her. She grabs her gun and aims at a wolf and thinks about shooting it, but her attention is directed towards something coming from the sky. A spotlight lights the forest and blinds her as a helicopter flies in the sky above her. The wolves are scared away and Emily sighs in relief. She starts running back towards her house, perhaps she’ll be safer there and Alice will be back by now, hopefully. Inside the helicopter is a man (Dennis Haysbert) who looks down at the country.
Alice’s feet are dragging heavily in the snow, tired of her journey. She sees fires on the horizon. She followed the trail all the way back to where it ended and she finds herself in the village. She wanders around, wondering where the hell she is. She’s caught from behind by a woman, Nora, who tells her that she can’t be seen around here, women aren’t allowed in this part of the village. She says she’ll bring her back with the children.
The helicopter is seen landing at the facility, as Erik and Richard are waiting for their guests next to the helipad.

Betsy Brandt .... Justine
Sunny Suljic .... Jimmy
Ross O'Hennessy .... Lars

Plot: Nora (Nina Hoss) hurries up while bringing Alice (Merritt Wever) with the other women and children. Alice asks Nora her name and she presents herself. Alice doesn’t realise where she is and she asks Nora what’s this place. She stops dead in her tracks and she takes a good look at Alice and realises that she isn’t one of them. Nora takes out a small hunting knife from her pocket and threatens Alice with it. Tired from her long walk in the woods, Alice drops in her knees and begs Nora to keep her alive. She lost her kids and her husband, she has nowhere else to go. Nora takes a good look around her and brings Alice back to her place. She gives her clothes like hers so she can look like them. Alice thanks Nora for her hospitality and wishes she had something to give her as a thank you gift. Nora looks at her and says she can thank her by not telling anyone what she did tonight. Alice nods to tell she understands.
Bernhard (Mikael Persbrandt), Lars (Ross O’Hennessy), Gustav (Ola Rapace) and Gunnar (Pilou Asbaek) are rock climbing a cliff so they can have a better view of the facility. Lars missteps, but he’s able to recover. Bernhard urges everyone to be careful, they can’t lose anyone right now.
Not far away, Erik (Lars Mikkelsen) and Richard (Alistair Petrie) welcome Mr. Thompson (Dennis Haysbert) to their facility and Erik asks what brings him here. Thompson says he heard through the grapevines that they have security problems and Erik says it has been taken care of. Thompson says it’s not the impression he had coming in. Erik says it’ll be better if they speak in his office. Richard suggests a tour of the facility first and Thompson thinks this is a fantastic idea. They begin their tour in the common area, but Thompson asks to see their weapon inventory. They make a detour by the cells and Spencer (Ben McKenzie) hears them coming. He wakes Justine (Betsy Brandt) up. They take a good look at them and Spencer asks Justine who it is. She says she’s doesn’t know. In the adjacent cell, Frank (Shea Whigham) can’t sleep because of the pain caused by his injuries and he listens to every noise. He thinks he recognized the voice of his old neighbour, Spencer. He asks out loud if there’s a Spencer in the next cell and Spencer tells him to quiet down, they’ll talk about everything tomorrow morning at breakfast.
Erik, Richard and Mr. Thompson are all in Erik’s office and Erik finally asks Thompson about the reason of his visits. He says the organization has been informed that this facility has security problems, starting by the hole in the fence he saw when coming in, they had a security alarm. He says he saw a village not far away. The organization is worried Erik may be not be doing everything he can to protect his people, the first mission of the organization. Richard says, with all due respect, that they may call themselves an organization, but this is essentially a prison and everything is under control. Thompson says this is far from a prison. They are here to provide shelter and security to people and right now, they are failing to provide that. He may be forced to put this facility under tutelage and bring Erik back to the headquarters.
Alice enters the barracks where they keep all the women and children. Even if everyone is sleeping, when the door opens, everyone looks at Alice.

Emily (Thomasin McKenzie) sits in the house bored and looks by the window barely seeing anything because of the blizzard. She focuses on the horizon and she sees something coming. She tries to see what it is, but can’t discern any details. Unsure of what to do next, she decides to stay awake and keep an eye out. She notices something else and thinks she saw people outside. The blizzard decreases in intensity and she sees people getting close the house and she recognizes their clothes, it’s the scavengers again. She grabs the rifle resting next to her and she starts shooting to scare them, screaming at them to go away, they already stole everything from her.
Bernhard (Mikael Persbrandt) leads the way for Frank (Shea Whigham) and Spencer (Ben McKenzie) and they sneak around the burned village, walking over the ashes of what used to be an impressive men-made village. Bernhard wants to lead Frank and Spencer to Alice, so he enters the barrack where he saw her last, but he notices that everyone is gone. He sees Nora (Nina Hoss) on the ground. He asks her what happened here and he says someone entered. She allowed everyone else to escape and fought back, but he got her good. He asks what happened to the woman and her son and she says they left before everyone else and went into the forest. Nora is of no use anymore as she dies in Bernhard’s arms. He says he loved her with all his heart, but there’s no time to cry for her tonight, he has unfinished business as the facility. Spencer and Frank say that wasn’t the deal and Bernhard says they better listen to him or else he’ll make sure they’ll never see Alice and Jimmy again. Besides, they better behave, because he doesn’t think Erik and the other mysterious man will be too happy to learn they’re helping the enemy. Bernhard says they’ll cut through the mountains, it’ll go faster. They’re concerned about his leg and he says he’ll be alright.
Alice (Merritt Wever) and Jimmy (Sunny Suljic) are walking in the forest, exhausted from their day and from dragging the snow with their feet, but Alice is reassuring as she knows they’re getting close. They hear some non reassuring noise in front of them and Alice has a flash. They’re getting close to home and she hears gunshots. Her daughter must be there. Like any mother would, the feeling that her daughter is in danger lights a fire within her and she grabs Jimmy on her back and starts running. She gets closer to the house and she sees dead bodies on the ground and trails of blood leading to the house. She hears gunshots and feels bullets hitting targets near her. Emily, perched behind the second floor window, shoots everything in sight, which is mostly shapes, because of the ongoing blizzard. Emily sets her target and she doesn’t realises it’s her mother. She keeps shooting, but misses the target. Alice can’t see who’s shooting, but she wants to go back into her house. As she runs to the front porch, a bullet hits Jimmy in the shoulder and he goes down in pain. Alice drags him inside and screams for Emily to get down if that’s even her. Emily runs down the stairs and starts to cry when she sees she shot her brother. Alice says these people mean no harm they just got attacked. In fact, the ones who were not shot by Emily simply ran past the house and deeper into the woods. Alice asks for her sewing kit so she can remove the bullet from Jimmy’s shoulder.
During this time, Frank and Spencer decide to leave Bernhard behind, he can’t keep up with them and they say they’ll be back for him. He says he’ll do his best to survive. Frank doesn’t realise that Bernhard stole his gun. They climb the mountain side and reach the facility. Most people are back from the battle and wondering what the hell happen. They both sneak around and try not to be seen by the guards as they enter the garage to get some snowmobiles. They are surprised to see Erik there who wants head out and look for Bernhard. He asks if they are really the ones they sent to help him and they both lie and say they do. Erik says he isn’t going to lie and he hoped they sent other people. They each get a snowmobile and leave in the blizzard. Spencer and Frank do their best to lose Erik, but he’s able to follow them. Spencer wants to get Bernhard, he’s the only one who knows where Alice and Jimmy are.
Alice is desperately trying to remove the bullet from Jimmy’s shoulder, but finds herself constantly disturbed by Emily and her fear that they might get attacked by the fleeing people.
Bernhard is laying in the snow, bleeding from his leg profusely. The smell of blood attracted a pack of wolves who are slowly circling Bernhard. He senses them coming even if he can’t really see them and he aims at them with his gun. He thinks they’re ready to strike at any moment now, until he sees a light coming. Spencer arrives with his snowmobile and he helps Bernhard get on and he asks for directions. Bernhard suggest they go through the forest, it’ll go quicker and they might lose their friend, referring to Erik, who recognized he has been duped and tries to shoot Bernhard. They go in the forest and Spencer does his best to go between the trees and slalom so Erik can’t shoot them. Frank follows them from behind Erik as he doesn’t want to get caught in the crossfire.
Jimmy is now unconscious from the blood loss as Alice is unsure how to treat the gunshot wound. She asks Emily to calm down for a second and she hears a snowmobile approaching. She asks Emily to look for her brother and she heads outside, aiming her rifle at the forest. Spencer emerges with Bernhard and Alice points her gun at Bernhard. She recognizes Spencer, but doesn’t trust Bernhard. Spencer asks her to trust the man, he’s the only reason he’s here. He leans in to passionately kiss his wife, but she says there’s no time, Jimmy has been shot, it’s a long story. Bernhard says he can take care of him, but Alice isn’t sure she can trust him. Bernhard limps and grabs her by the collar. He tells her he’s not by the bad guy, she should ask her husband. Bernhard gets inside and tells Emily he’s not here to hurt her and he has never been. He starts taking care of Jimmy. Outside, Alice and Spencer reunite and he tells her everything that happened. He says they should get out of here, they’re being followed and it’s not safe for them here.
Spencer runs to Frank’s house and takes a snowmobile with him. He looks at the forest and he says out loud that he hopes Frank is alright in there. Inside, Alice packs a couple of things and heads with Emily outside, she says they need to leave. On her way out, Bernhard tells her Jimmy will be alright, he’s all done with him. She thanks him for his help and she says she might have been wrong about him after all. Spencer comes back and grabs Jimmy on his shoulders and he asks Bernhard if he wants to come with them. He says he wouldn’t go far anyway and he’ll stay here to take care of their friend if he wants to follow them. Spencer hops on the snowmobile with Jimmy and Alice is with Emily on hers. Right before they leave, Bernhard gets on the front porch and tells them to head south, they’ll find something there. They leave, heading south, as Bernhard sits on the front porch, looking at the forest.
Some time later, Erik emerges from the forest on his snowmobile. Bernhard stands in front of him and Erik says that at last, they meet again. He must admit that their friend was more of a fight than he expected. Bernhard says it’s time to get this over with as both men standoff.
